Maurizio Lotter

Welcome to the Venetian Bazaar website,

Thank you for coming.

My name might be a bit hard to pronounce, right? I'd be happy if you could call me "Mauri" or "Mausan."

Do you all like Italy?

I was born in Murano, a place in the Veneto region of Italy, located in the north of Venice.

It's an island you can reach by boat from the main island of Venice, and it's known for having many glass workshops, shops, and a museum dedicated to Venetian glass.

I am a glass bead artisan myself, so I have my own workshop.

I have workshops both on the main island of Venice where my family lives, and since 2021, I also have one in Kyoto.

In Venice, there is an organization called the "Comitato per la Salvaguardia dell'Arte delle Perle di Vetro Veneziane," and my Kyoto workshop is the first in Japan to be recognized by this association.

Of course, I'm also a member of this association. I aim to spread the charm, history, and techniques of Venetian glass beads from my shop and workshop.

At Venetian Bazaar stores, in addition to the necklaces I make, we also import and sell glassware from fellow artisans who maintain traditional techniques, such as the masks used in carnivals.

Apart from the shop in Kichijoji and the Kyoto workshop, I also participate in events at department stores nationwide.

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you in various places.

If you see me, please feel free to say hello!

Profile

I was born in 1958 on Murano Island in Venice.

Growing up in an environment surrounded by Venetian glass artisans, I had admired glass artisans since a young age. Around the age of 5, my family moved to the main island of Venice, but I continued to visit Murano Island whenever I could to play with the artisans, and naturally began to learn the art of glassmaking. Around the age of 12, I acquired my own gas burner and became even more captivated by the joy of glassmaking.

While aspiring to become a glass artisan, due to my proficiency in languages, I joined the renowned Italian glass company "VIVARINI" as a salesperson to convey the allure of Venetian glass to many people. Several years later, I changed careers and became the General Manager of "CrystalCenter" in Rome. However, my passion for glassmaking never waned.

In 1990, I returned to Venice and established my own workshop. In 1992, I founded the direct-import store "Venetian Bazaar" in Kichijoji, Tokyo. While participating in events primarily at department stores across Japan, I also developed my own original glass art jewelry brand, named 【Maurizio Lotter】, with products named after me.

In 2021, with the support of the Venetian Glass Bead Preservation Association, I established the "AtelierMauri" Venetian glass bead workshop in Kyoto. Apart from Italy and Japan, I am involved in activities to spread the techniques and culture of Venetian glass to various countries around the world.
